Learn how to avoid crocodile attack with safety tips for camping in the North. Watch our professional, experienced keepers demonstrate the notorious death roll and head shake. See a huge crocodile hand fed up close in our specially designed amphitheatre.

CROCODILE FEEDING 11.00am

A guided tour featuring the habitat and behaviour of estuarine (saltwater) and freshwater crocodiles.

Our keepers enthral you with their daring and fine judgement as they hand feed these prehistoric animals.

Walk over a billabong inhabited by freshwater crocodiles on a floating pontoon bridge (the first of its kind in Australia).

FRESHWATER CROCODILES

The freshwater crocodile (Crocodylus johnstoni) is found in the inland waterways of Northern Australia. This shy reptile, growing to a length of 3m, is distinguished from the saltwater crocodile by its long narrow snout. They rarely harm people and feed mainly on fish, crustaceans, insects and small mammals.

SALTWATER CROCODILES

The Australian Saltwater Crocodile is correctly known as the Estuarine Crocodile (Crocodylus porosus) and is found in the northern parts of Australia and South-East Asia. The name ‘saltwater crocodile’, is misleading as they can be found in fresh and saltwater. Estuarine crocodiles are the largest growing of all crocodilian species and are the world’s largest living reptile.

Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures now hosts Australia’s first digital crocodile ‘cuddling’ photo facility. The quality of these souvenir photos is excellent.

‘Friendly’ python photos are are also available at selected times.

The boat ride on Hartley’s Lagoon is a unique eco adventure. On specially constructed boats, visitors can explore the natural habitat of the Australian Saltwater Crocodile and learn about the ecological significance of the melaleuca wetlands found throughout northern Australia.
